The Arctic campaign of spring 2008 was developed on Austfonna ice cap, Nordaustlandet, Svalbard, in collaboration with Oslo University. The participants were Francisco Navarro and Evgeny Vasilenko (Spain-Russia) and Jon Ove Hagen, Trond Eiken and Thorben Dunse (Norway). The glaciological works focused on low-frequency (20-50 MHz) and high-frequency (800 MHz) radio-echo sounding, aimed at determining the ice thickness and the structure of the snow-firn sequence, respectively, combined with mass balance measurements and maintenance of automatic weather stations. Part of these data will be used to validate the data to be provided by the planned mission Cryosat2 of the European Space Agency (ESA).
